The Apprentice Witch by James Nicol

In this book we meet Arianwyn, a young witch who is about to get evaluated for her powers. Her hopes are high, but during the evaluation something goes wrong and she fails. She is sent to the town of Lull in disgrace, where the mayor always seems disapproving and disappointed. Everything is going along pretty well, until her old enemy, Gimma, from school comes to “visit”. Gimma messes everything up and it is up to Arianwyn to fix it, but how can she when she is unsure of her powers? I liked this book because it was very interesting and I feel like I am a spectator in the story due to the author’s descriptions.
